Who is Susco?

This is the social debut of the latest San Marzano Wines project.

Who is Susco? What is it?

Also, an enigmatic image. Deep sounds, fading characters. An aura of mystery that melts away in its name: Susco Susumaniello Salento IGP.

Salento’s black grape variety, Susumaniello. Abandoned in part, then rediscovered. The distinctive high-youthful yield of the vine drastically drops as the plant ages.

San Marzano rediscovers it under a different non-light. Susco, then. It translates in the local dialect as “shy.”

Away from the spotlight, yes. But ambitious, sophisticated.

Its withdrawn character is emphasised and enhanced here. For the first time, communicated. No longer the quantity of the young Susumaniello, but the quality of time, of wisdom.

It rests in French and American oak barrels for six months and showcases an intense ruby red colour.

The good tannin structure, naturally predisposed to ageing in wood, accompanies a wine with a floral and fruity bouquet, spiced with delicate balsamic notes.

A new, enchanting charm. A structured wine that reveals an interesting acidic note and excellent persistence on the palate.

Who is Susco?

Now that we know this, we are even more eager to find out.
